In 5 Easy Steps, Create a Shopify Related Products section

A well-converting online store must have a Shopify related products section.

It’s not surprising that many smaller merchants are now following the lead of ecommerce giants such as Amazon.

However, how about a section on related products?

Although some themes make it simple, controlling your cross-selling strategy can be difficult.

This article will show you how to create a related products section in your store using multiple methods. We will also discuss the importance of implementing one.

Let’s just get to it, without further delay.

Shopify Related Products Sections – Why they’re so important for any store

We’ve likely all seen many “frequently purchased together” sections on different product pages. Why is this so common?

Cross-selling is the key.

Cross-selling a product means to offer a related product to the customer during the purchasing process. Cross selling is a great way of increasing your average order value while investing minimally.

Who wouldn’t want to see more sales?

Cross-selling is an art form. Want to learn more? Take a look at our guide to cross-selling.

How to set up a related products section in your Shopify store

The theme editor is the first step to creating a section for related products.

Many themes make it easy to add related products directly to your product pages. This is how we recommend it for pre-purchase related product sections.

Here’s how it works in the Brooklyn theme.

Navigate to the “customize” section of your theme. Click on the default product page once you are there.

HTML2_ Step 2

Click on the tab “Product Recommendations”.

Check “Show Dynamic Recommendations”. It’s possible that it is enabled by default.

This will make it much easier if your Shopify theme has it. We recommend that you continue to follow the other methods!

If your theme does not include this feature, you will need to manually add it or use a third-party app.

Manually adding related products to a liquid file

You can add a section to your product pages by using HTML and JavaScript.

To clarify this a little more, you can use the Recommendations object in order to add featured products on your website. This first section of code will look like this:

(Yes we said but that’s because there’s more to it)

This shouldn’t seem too difficult if you are familiar with HTML or JavaScript. Shopify offers a detailed guide to customizing product pages by hand here.

For the rest of us, however, it’s got to be a simpler way.

It is.

We can still control what products are shown to customers by using a third-party app.

ReConvert is the app we’ll discuss today. (That’s us!)

In 5 Easy Steps, Add Post-Purchase Related Products to ReConvert

We’ve made it easy to add our app to any store.

It should take five steps to set everything up from start to finish. We’ll go into another step if you need to customize the setup.

Let’s get started.

You can add related products to ReConvert by first navigating to our page via the Shopify app store. To get to the page, you can also use this link .

Click “Add App” once you are there to install ReConvert in your store.

HTML2_ Step 2

Once the app is installed, navigate to “Settings” in your store.

Click on the “Checkout” tab. This is how it looks:

Scroll down to the “Post-Purchase page” section and choose ReConvert as your default application.

Go back to the ReConvert page and set the maximum discount that you would like to offer in your funnel. Click “Publish ReConvert” to let the app do all the work.

ReConvert makes it easy to increase order value with little effort, from automated post-purchase recommendations to prebuilt funnels.

You can also add an optional step to give you more control over your funnel.

Optional Step Six

You can take greater control of your personalized recommendations by going to the “funnels tab”. It will show you something similar to this:

You can create a customized funnel for your online shop that meets your specific needs.

Summarising: 3 Tips to Build Your Shopify Related Products Section

Let’s sum it all.

Make sure your recommendations are relevant and high-value

This tip may be the most important of all the ones.

Businesses that don’t care about their customers are unlikely to last.

It is a great way for you to decrease trust between your customers and yourself and increase your bounce rate.

It is important to make sure that your cross-selling recommendations are relevant and high value.

Learn the Difference between Pre- and Post-Purchase Approaches

It is important to understand the differences between pre-purchase and post-purchase suggestive selling.

Cross-selling products before and after a sale is not advisable. Each approach has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Pre-HT0_purchase is great for small recommendations that don’t deter the initial purchase.

However, if you recommend something too expensive for your customer, it might cause a change in their mind and result in no sales.

After-purchase allows you to sell larger items as it doesn’t impact the original purchase decision.

There are many differences, but it is possible to learn them and increase your chances of success.

Optimize Customer Data for More Sales

Data is everything in business.

Your approach to marketing strategies and the products you promote should be informed by data.

For related product sections, this is true.

Although most tools automatically implement this data to show customers products with the highest conversion rates, it is still important to keep that information in mind for your hand-picked recommendations.
